Definition
Long activities hide progress detail and make status reporting coarse. The limit is 44 working days and can be changed in the analysis settings.
How the app counts it
- Measured on the original duration of incomplete activities.
- Level-of-effort activities are left out.
Thresholds, the counting basis and whether the check counts towards the score can all be changed. See settings.
Why it matters
An activity reported at 40% for two months tells nobody whether it is on track. Shorter activities can be statused and give an earlier warning.
How to fix it in P6
- Break long work into activities that can be completed and statused within a reporting cycle or two.
- Long procurement and manufacture periods are often legitimate; say so in the activity name or notes.
